ATP Year-End № 1 Doubles · 2018 (Player) · 2024 (Coach)

Once as a player. Once as a coach. Still on tour.

In 2018 I finished the year as the world's № 1 doubles team with Mate Pavić. In 2024 I coached him back to year-end № 1 — and I'm still on tour with him today. As far as I know, nobody else has done both. This is the same system I'm using right now.

2018
ATP Year-End № 1 · Doubles Team
Finished 2018 as the world's № 1 doubles team with Mate Pavić, and won the Australian Open doubles title that same season.
2024
Coached to Year-End № 1
Returned to the tour as Pavić's coach. Took him back to year-end № 1 in doubles — the same player, the same achievement, six years later.
1 of 1
Player + Coach at № 1
First person in tennis history to reach year-end № 1 doubles as both an active player and as a coach. The only curriculum from someone who's done it from both sides.
The Coach

There's only one person who's been year-end № 1 doubles as player and coach.

There's plenty of doubles content out there for the basics — where to stand, how to move, what to drill. The deeper layer is harder to find: how to adjust when your first-set patterns stop working, what a body serve actually does to a returner's mind, why two backs is sometimes the right call. That's where this curriculum lives. — Oliver Marach

I'm Oliver Marach. In 2018 I won the Australian Open men's doubles with Mate Pavić — and finished that season as the world's № 1 doubles team. The ATP year-end title. I retired from the tour in 2022.

In 2024, I went back as Mate's coach. We took him to year-end № 1 in doubles again. I'm still on tour with him — week to week, tournament to tournament. To my knowledge, no one else in tennis has reached year-end № 1 doubles as both an active player and as an active coach.

This curriculum is the system that did it — twice. Eight modules: the first six cover positioning, serve targets, return patterns, and lefty/righty matchups. The last two cover situations even most pros struggle with — returning a lefty's wide serve from the ad court, setting up I-formation against a returner who's reading you.

It's the manual I wish I'd had when I started.

The Curriculum · Eight Modules

Built like a tour player learns — positions, then patterns, then exceptions.

Modules 01 and 02 are free. Read them, take the quizzes, decide if my approach is for you. The advanced bundle covers the rest — including unlimited access to AI Oliver, the chatbot I trained on every detail of my career.

№ 01
Basic Doubles Play
Court positioning, the 4-box system, pre-serve communication. The foundation every doubles pair needs.
Free
№ 02
Serve Strategy
T-serve, body serve, wide serve. When to use which, and why a 75% body serve beats a 110% ace at club level.
Free
№ 03
Deuce Side Returns
Best returns when partner is at the net. How to handle wide serves, body serves, T-serves on the deuce side.
№ 04
Ad Side Returns
Cross-court vs down-the-line on the ad side. When to lob. The lefty-server adjustments most amateurs miss.
№ 05
Lefty / Righty — Normal Formation
When you're a righty playing with a lefty (or against one). Who serves first. Which side each plays. Why most teams set this up wrong.
№ 06
Lefty / Righty — I-Formation
The I-formation against mixed-handed teams. How to signal, when to use it, when not to. Plan B, never Plan A.
№ 07
Returning a Lefty Serve — Normal
The stretched backhand, the banana slice, the toss read. How to neutralize a lefty's wide serve from the ad court.
№ 08
Returning a Lefty Serve — I-Formation
The hardest scenario in doubles for two right-handed returners. Pattern recognition, recovery, two-back fallback.
Bundle Includes · AI Oliver

Ask me anything. Any doubles situation. Any time.

AI Oliver is trained on the same coaching system I use with Mate. Ask it about a match you just played, a return you can't figure out, a partner dynamic that's not working — and get tactical answers in my voice. Bundle members get unlimited access.

Open Champion Coach
My opponents are poaching every return. How do I stop them?
Three things stop a constant poacher: hit where he just was, lob over him, dip the CC.

If he's poaching every point, his starting position is empty by the time the ball arrives. Take your first or second shot through that spot — the alley or short angle he just left. He's already gone — the lane is open.

If he's crashing close to the net, lob over him. Forces the server to recover and chase a hard ball from behind the baseline. Punishes the aggression — use it early so he stops committing blindly.

Then get the CC return lower — dip at his feet so even when he poaches, he's volleying up. Take it earlier, shorten the swing, topspin or a low slice. No floaters.
What it answers

Real tactical questions. Lefty/righty matchups. I-formation timing. Returning a kicker. How to communicate with a partner who plays differently than you. When to two-back vs press the net.

It refuses singles questions, generic life advice, and anything outside doubles strategy. The point is depth, not breadth.

If you want to book a real lesson, the chatbot routes you straight to me on WhatsApp.

Common Questions

Things people ask before they buy.

Is this for club players or tournament players?
Both. The principles are the same — what changes is execution. A 3.5 club player learns where to stand and when to poach. A 5.0 tournament player learns when to break formation and how to read patterns. The system scales with your level.
What if I'm a left-hander?
Modules 05 through 08 are explicitly built around lefty/righty dynamics — half the curriculum applies more directly to you than to right-handed players. There's specific content for two-lefty teams, lefty serving from each side, and how lefties should adapt to common right-handed return patterns.
How does AI Oliver actually work?
It's a chatbot trained on the entire curriculum plus my coaching notes. You ask a tactical question, it responds in my voice with the same framework I'd use in a real lesson. It refuses anything that isn't doubles strategy. It's not a replacement for live coaching — it's a 24/7 reference for when you're prepping for a match, working through a plateau, or trying to figure out something specific.
What's the difference between Founders and Lifetime?
Price. Founders is $149 lifetime, capped at the first 50 buyers. After that, lifetime access is $299. Same content, same access. Founders also get a credit on the platform for being early supporters.
Can I get a refund if it's not for me?
All sales are final — no refunds on digital purchases. That's exactly why Modules 01 and 02 are free: they're a real test drive of the curriculum. Read them, see how I teach, and only buy if the system fits how you think about doubles. Once you have access to the paid modules, the content is yours forever — there's no way to return it. If you're on the fence, stay on the free tier as long as you need to.
Will you add more modules?
Yes. Modules 09 and 10 (returning a righty's serve from both sides at depth) are next. After that, situational modules — pressure points, third-set adjustments, doubles in mixed events. Lifetime members get every future module included.
Can I book a real lesson with you?
Yes — the chatbot routes booking requests directly to my WhatsApp. I coach in person in Panama City, Miami, the Hamptons, and NYC, and I take a small number of remote video reviews. Bundle members get my line.

The doubles you watch on tour has a system.
